courage to fight als
a growing movement
Led by ALS Action Canada, Courage to Fight ALS brings together people living with ALS, caregivers, researchers, advocates, organizations and supporters to raise awareness, mobilize resources and advance progress against ALS. Building on established fundraising initiatives and partnerships, Courage to Fight ALS is expanding opportunities for participation beyond hockey while continuing to support research, care, treatments and initiatives that make a difference for people affected by ALS.

courage to fight als fund
The Courage to Fight ALS Fund, formerly the ALS Super Fund, is an established charitable Cause Fund powered by Charitable Impact. It provides a way for individuals, groups and fundraising initiatives to pool contributions in support of shared ALS priorities.
Led by ALS Action Canada, the fund is guided by a unique Advisory Council comprised of ALS experts and those with lived experience, and works in collaboration with ALS organizations across North America.
Together, we raise and direct funds toward projects in Canada and the United States that will have meaningful impact and work to ensure that policy and research decisions in North America reflect the voices and perspectives of those most affected by ALS.
This inclusive and collaborative approach works to advance research and ensure that all people impacted by ALS have equitable access to care, treatments, and trials as we urgently pursue an end to the disease.
OUR PRIORITIES
Our funding priorities include:
- Raising patient and caregiver voices in care, treatment, trials, research and public policy in Canada
- Invest in innovative research across North America to better understand and manage the disease
- Advance swift and equitable access to care, treatments and trials for people in Canada, and across North America through our partnerships

mark Kirton's legacy
The ALS Super Fund, now known as the Courage to Fight ALS Fund, was co-founded by the late Mark Kirton (1958–2025), an NHL alumnus and dedicated ALS Action Canada board member who lived with ALS beginning in 2018. Through his fundraising efforts and connections within hockey, Mark helped bring players, teams and supporters together to raise awareness and funds for ALS. His leadership helped lay the foundation for the broader Courage to Fight ALS movement and continues to inspire its growth.
action to
impact
Since its launch in 2023 as the ALS Super Fund, the Courage to Fight ALS Fund has raised nearly $2M toward ALS initiatives in North America, with ten priority grant projects delivered to date.
With 14 Giving Groups and thousands of new donors to date, the fund has become an inspiring and easy way for community leaders, companies, events and groups to galvanize their networks and join our movement to end ALS.
Hockey initiatives under Courage to Fight ALS have played an important role in the fund’s success, engaging fans, teams, alumni and executives of the National Hockey League across North America. In 2024, all 32 NHL teams partnered with the hockey campaign in a strong demonstration of support.
Courage to Fight ALS hockey initiatives continue to evolve through increased partnerships, with an ultimate goal of hosting a Courage to Fight ALS Night in every NHL arena across North America. When it comes to ALS, we are all on the same team.
