Challenging Barriers to ALS Treatment Access: Bringing Our Patient Voice to Canada’s Drug Agency

From time to time, we hear of pALS who are not eligible to get Radicava under their provincial or private insurance plan. Recently we heard of a pALS who had been on Radicava, but were later told they were no longer eligible to receive it. The reason for this is the criteria for who is eligible for drugs, and who can continue to receive them under the provincial drug benefit plans. These criteria are developed by Canada’s Drug Agency (CDA), which is a separate agency from Health Canada which approves drugs as safe and effective
to be marketed.
